Approximately 7 miles North West of Hannover the town of Garbsen is in the German district of Hanover in Lower Saxony. A great base for exploring this area of Germany, Garbsen has a wealth of its own attractions and places to explore. In Garbsen hotels can be found to suit everyone from shoestring travelers to busy families and seekers of luxurious comfort.

The city was born in 1974 when several municipalities were merged into one conurbation. In the past the area was used mainly for agriculture but slowly became industrialized until it became the modern thriving city we see today.

The city is easily reached by the A2 or B6 and is served by the busy Hanover-Langenhagen airport. Public transport in the area is excellent with high speed trains operating from many major European cities and a tram network offering convenient local and intercity transport.

The city has many small and medium businesses operating in a range of industries, with a focus on trade and services. German car manufacturers have large production plants on the outskirts of the city and there is also a large student population who attend the Leibniz University Hannover.

The university has one of the largest training facilities in the region with apprentices from many professions attending the education center at the Chamber of Hannover. The center also runs numerous seminars, conferences and training days for seasoned professionals, making Garbsen a business hub for this area of Germany. Business travelers will find Garbsen hotels are therefore well set up to cater for business needs, with high speed internet available in bedrooms or in hotel lobbies and meeting rooms available for hire from the hotel reception.

Leisure travelers will be able to make the most of the cities many museums and monuments. Highlights include the local museum at Altgarbsen which is housed in a former brick factory's kitchen dating from around 1890. The museum exhibits a range of natural history displays as well as exhibitions of the cities past including the thriving brick industry on which the city's success was founded.

The cities baroque church at Osterwald is well worth a visit, as is Ricklingen Castle. There is also an interesting windmill in the Horst district and a toy and doll museum in the city center.

The city has plenty of open green spaces, with one of the biggest inner city parks in the area at Garbsen Mitte boasting 7 acres of outdoor space to explore. The park includes a well maintained and informative nature trail as well as a fitness center with swimming pool and plenty of fitness equipment. The Kneipp foot baths offer a taste of luxurious relaxation after a busy day and the Nordic walking trail in the park is a good chance to get a taste of Nordic Pole walking in the safety of a city environment.

A popular destination for many families visiting the city is the Blue Lake which offers a range of activities for the whole family. Visitors can take part in waterskiing, wakeboarding and windsurfing under instruction from some of the best trainers in the area. There is also a large playground and a 200 foot water slide snaking down the bank and into the lake. For little ones there is a designated under 5's play area and plenty of space for picnics and land sports. The area leads onto a number of exciting hiking and cycling trails and if you have had enough of staying in the Garbsen hotels there is a wonderful lakeside campsite with log cabins to sleep in or pitches for tents and caravans.
